This is a well-preserved and fairly typical example of 1890s affordable housing. This type of house usually sits on a narrow lot, but the balloon frame construction allows it to rise high, with tall ceilings.  Thin walls allow ample space on the second story, and even the possibility of additional rooms or storage in the attic area. Many houses of this type survive, though the majority have been covered with newer siding (as can be seen on this street and on Westcott Street), and have had many of their exterior details (patterned shingles, decorative brackets, etc) removed or covered.
