From the artist: Often called the “Dark Ages,” the medieval period was anything but dark. Created during this time, illuminated manuscripts – miniature marvels of gold leaf and paint – were masterpieces in their own right. My work, inspired by these treasures, reflects the interplay of cultures prevalent during this period. Drawing on the Christian and secular works of Western Europe, the Persian Shamsas of the Islamic region, and the Celtic gripping beasts of the Vikings, I bring the light of the Middle Ages forward to our own time.
