Women & Work in Colonial America
Hosted by: Petit Branch Library
Join us to explore the experiences of early settlers in the Americas and how they affected women’s lives. From the creation of the earliest houses to the adaptation of the landscape around them, colonial women faced hardship as they accomplished common domestic tasks and worked to conform to expected norms while creating a new society. Presented by Dr. Sara L. French, a visiting instructor in Landscape Architecture at SUNY-ESF. She is the author of several scholarly articles and an avid family historian. She received her Ph.D. from Binghamton University and has taught courses in art and design history, architectural history, and most recently on the intersections of art and environment in American culture.
