Petit Presents: Sounds of Sweden with Toby Weinberg and Stefhan Ohlstrøm
Saturday, April 29, at 2:00 p.m.
Come listen to Toby Weinberg and Stefhan Ohlstrøm play traditional music from Sweden on violins (fiddles) and nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle). Haunting melodies and harmonies with roots in the 1600s, these tunes have been passed down and developed, as a mixture of aural and written traditions through the centuries until the present day. Toby is widely recognized as one of the foremost American players of the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle. Stefhan is honored as a riksspelemann (musician of the realm) in Sweden, a living musical treasure, recognized by the Swedish government. Although the traditional fiddle music of Sweden has moved forward since the 60s and 70s, they both prefer the subtleties of the older, simpler tunes and share a large repertoire and a similar vision of the music.
