Trash and Recycling
So Which Day Is Garbage and/or Recyclables Pickup?
Throughout Syracuse’s Southeastern Quadrant, garbage pickup from lidded, non-overflowing, fully bagged, black city issued garbage cans is all about Wednesdays.
The legal set out period is technically after 8 pm Tuesday night, and before 6 am Wednesday morning.
Too early? That could theoretically earn a ticket. Too late? You are likely to miss the truck.
Afterward, all empty cans are supposed to be stashed away by 7 pm.
Certain holidays will cause a 24-hour delay across the city’s pickup rotation.
Recyclables pickup through lidded, non-overflowing, fully loose, blue city issued recycling receptacle is now an every-other-week situation. Compliance hinges on access to the official calendar, as well as on faulty human memories as to whether you are an ‘A’ Weeker or a ‘B’ Weeker.

That should give you an up-to-the-day readout on Recycling ‘A’ Weeks versus ‘B’ Weeks, very similarly to the web-based, freelance-driven Odd/Even Parking guide.
For 2026, we’re illustrating this post with a map and calendar combined in one place.
For unclear situations along the geographic seam between ‘A’ Week and ‘B’ Week, the best answer is to look up your recycling pick-up week by street address.
On this city web page, near the bottom, there’s an interactive map, and a spot to keyboard in your street address:
