Jerry Grant passed away September 20, 2017. A Syracuse native and long-time resident of the Westcott area, Jerry was a long-time board member and past president of WNA.
During his tenure, Jerry initiated/or revived neighborhood recognition awards for most improved house and best garden. He also implemented block surveys for local ordinance violations such as necessary sidewalk repairs, and building ordinance violations. Today these efforts include an annual street light audit.
Jerry also promoted a purpose statement emphasizing building diversity and community. He institued board retreats at his house, which included goals and objectives planning. He also invited board members to a gumbo soup feast on one occasion.
In his efforts to encourage more neighborhood participation in WNA, he held ice cream socials and a painting party for the exterior of the former Agora Café, now Recess.
Jerry was truly a bright neighborhood spirit that illuminated all of us.
