727 Sumner Ave / Charles Bertram Walker house, later Bette Maltby & Kathleen Parish house
- Built: ca. 1915
- Architect: Unknown
Charles Walker (b. 1875) was an accomplished artist and educator. Born in Warren, NY, he won the Hiram Gee Fellowship in Painting in 1899 and then studied in Paris in 1899-1900. He began teaching in Syracuse University’s College of Fine Art 1900 and went on to be director of the school, resigning in 1946.
Like so many other houses on the street this is another example of a “Stickley bungalow.” The long flight of steps from the street to the porch make this small simple house almost monumental in appearance.
