The Old Neighborhood Part I
Stop #06
451 Westcott Street
- Built: ca. 1890
- Architect: Unknown
This attractive 2 1/2-story house is yet another variation on a Queen Anne style theme wherein an essentially simple, almost box-like house is enlivened by pulling and pushing at the underlying cubic form to create a seemingly unique multi-faceted house. Unlike its immediate neighbors this house is entered on a central axis. The house is little wider than many on the street, and this allows a central entrance hall flanked by parlor spaces. Though the facade is not symmetrical, the central axis is emphasized by the placement a small pediment over the main entrance and then the inclusion of a large attic level pedimental dormer directly overhead. The house is nicely painted. The two-tone treatment in earth tones is probably similar to its original coloring.
