The house has been home to local architect Robert Haley and family for more than 40 years, has undergone some changes. The large peaked gable was once two smaller gabled dormers which leaked and produced a very dangerous ice column in winter. According to Bob, “I would lock our three children in the house and climb out on the little roof, and chop it down. So I fixed the roof leak by combining the smaller peaks into one simple roof. Then I extended the upper level out 2′ and tucked the new bays under the overhang, and into the original rough opening for the pair of double-hungs.” The windows on all floors have been adjusted to maximize cross ventilation, so that “only on the very worst, still summer nights do we need move to a small room with a window air conditioner.”
