The Old Neighborhood Part I
Stop #60
112 Dell Street / Parker House
- Built: ca. 1892
- Architect: Unknown
This frame house, and #118 next door, are among the oldest on the street. Many examples of these tall narrow houses, with projecting front bays beneath a wider gable supported by decorative brackets can be seen on South Beech and Westcott Streets.
Stylistically, they are simple versions of the ornate Queen Anne style prevalent in the 1880s notable for variegated profiles and surfaces, and a mix of ornament and surface texture. Number 112 especially preserves much of its original decoration, as well as its two-story side porch. The survival of this element is a good indication of what many similar houses once may have had.
