The Tempest

Hosted by: Syracuse Shakespeare in the Park

Syracuse Shakespeare-In-The-Park presents the rollicking romance, The Tempest, for the second time in its seventeen year history. You will see the magic of Prospero as he tries to get revenge on his usurping brother. You will follow the love of Ferdinand for Propsero’s daughter Miranda. You will be amazed and intrigued by the “monster” Caliban and the ne’r-do-well characters Stephano and Trinculo who provide the comic relief. You will witness the storm that tears the ship to pieces on the rocks and leads King Alonso to believe Prospero is dead. Ariel, a magic spirit of her own, does what she can to win her freedom by helping Prospero humiliate his enemies.

This is a show for the whole family in the magical setting of our beautiful Thornden Park Amphitheatre! We provide a Kids Area for those ten and under along with beach balls, bubbles and prizes. You can bring your own picnic, libations, blankets and lawn chairs or buy treats at the Field House concession stand run by the Thornden Park Bulldogs. With guitar music from our good friend Peter Allen and the beauty of dancing by the Syracuse City Ballet you will be entertained, uplifted and (perhaps) transformed. We sell Gannon’s Ice Cream at intermission and turn on the bubble machine for fun.

Don’t miss this Syracuse tradition that will delight the whole family.

Performances  8/2, 8/3, 8/9, 8/10 5:30pm; 8/4 and 8/11 2:00pm
